Cinderella “plot holes” I am tired of hearing about
“Why didn’t her step family recognize her?” Because royal balls were basically the candle lit equivalent of clubbing in terms of both lighting and sheer numbers. Even if they were right next to her, they probably wouldn’t get a good look, especially since it would have started after sundown. Also, she was the help; they probably hadn’t looked at her in years.
“Looking for someone based on their shoe size is stupid!” See above.
“Was he going to have every size seven in the kingdom try the slipper on?” Prior to industrialization most garments were made by hand to fit the buyer’s measurements, including shoes. It’s why poor people only had one pair. It’s a lot smarter when you consider that they would’ve fit her like a glove.
“You can’t run down stairs in heels!” I know this is a misconception resulting from historical revisionism and disneyfication, but high heels were not originally women’s shoes. They were worn by men. Women wore slippers, which were basically ballet flats. So it’s debatable.
“Glass shoes don’t make any sense!” Okay first of all, it’s called the suspension of disbelief, and secondly, they’re gold in every other version but Perrault decided to change them to something else expensive.
“She just went to the ball to find a man!” I know this isn’t a plot hole but listen. As the daughter of a widower Cinderella would’ve been running the household finances and acting as hostess if he hadn’t remarried. By demoting Cinderella to a servant, her step-mother essentially guaranteed that she would never escape the house, because the only way for her to escape and maintain her status was to marry well, and no one was going to marry a servant. It was essentially the historical equivalent of your mom stealing your college acceptance letters out of the mailbox.
this was not an analysis i was prepared for, i’ll tell you that
apparently controversial fucking opinion: some of us need closed captions/subtitles to understand what is being said in a video and don’t want to see fan transcribers demolishing captions with zalgo text or giving their own commentary/cracking stupid jokes when we turn those on
i promise your jokes/theories/fucking leet speek for some reason can stay in the comments and not in the captions where i have to keep rewatching the video to figure out if that’s actually being said or not
stop putting your own jokes/commentary on what’s being said in the video!
if the video is silent while someone is doing something, there are no needed captions! stop putting weird summaries of what’s happening visually!
i guess i can technically read these yes but holy shit it’s annoying cut it out
i’m glad you suddenly realized captions support stylized text but stop using it, neither of those words had any spoken emphasis on them and this stuff only makes it harder to read captions at a glance
and that’s what captions are for- i need to be able to glance at them so i can continue to watch the video while i know what’s being said. i don’t know what’s being said if they’re cluttered with your unnecessary jokes, and i can’t glance at them and call it good if they’re stylized or written weirdly or full of emoticons and stuff.
You must be fun at parties😐
oh my god shut up, it isn’t “not being fun at parties” or “killing the joke” some people are deaf and hard of hearing or have auditory/sensory processing difficulties that make it difficult to hear, especially with or dialects.
subtitles are there to give accessibility to these people, not for you to have a laugh in and to make the text difficult to read. it’s an accessibility tool not a school note book.
if you want to do this make your own gifs and put fake subtitles on them if you have to. make a parody video. just don’t kill the video for an entire group of people in the name of “fun”
‘if you’re a trans guy why are you wearing a bra’
listen my dude, unsure if you know but the day I came out as trans my breasts didn’t immediately retract into my body. they continue to exist. and wearing a binder - no matter how well it fits - for hours on end day in day out becomes unbelievably uncomfortable. wearing a bra as a trans guy doesn’t make you a Bad Trans™. can we stop putting expectations on trans people to perform to the Good Trans Person Standards and being terrible to them when they don’t. other words, can people mind their own fuckin business when it comes to other people’s bodies and what they do with them lmfao
this goes for giving trans women shit for not shaving too. there are a hundred and one reasons why someone may choose not to shave or not be able to. people empower cis women for not shaving (which is perfectly fine and great) and in the same breathe shame a trans woman for not choosing to shave. don’t force a higher standard of presentation onto trans people, especially when those presentations are rooted in stale expectations of gender.
